201 pre-irradiated patients with mostly large-scale, locally recurrent breast cancer were evaluated with combined wIRA superficial hyperthermia and re-radiation using a newly proposed size classification. Participants include Lindenhofspital in Bern, the Freiburg University Clinic, the Radiation Therapy Bremen and the Radiation Therapy at Maximiliansplatz Munich.

Response rates, local control and survival are shown in tables and Kaplan-Meier curves.

2) wIRA superficial hyperthermia at the 11th Biennial Conference by the Indian Association of Hyperthermia and Oncology and Medicine at the Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital.

Congratulations to Dr. Peter Vaupel for receiving the Lifetime Achievement award From 15th to 16th The 11th Biennal Conference of the Indian hyperthermia association IAHOM took place in Mumbai in February 2020.

Thank you to Dr. Naguaj Huilgd for organizing the event. The heckel exhibition stand with Dr. Abha Sharma-Teckemeier and her team in India are met with great interest.
wIRA superficial hyperthermia was discussed in lectures given by Dr. Markus Notter, Dr. Hans Crezee and Prof. Zeljko Vujaskovic.
We are in contact with several Indian clinics that show concrete interest in this method. There is a great need for an effective treatment for the many women with locally recurrent breast cancer.
Prof. Vaupel, Dr. Crezee, Dr. van der Zee and Prof. Vujaskovic were honored for their achievements in the field of hyperthermia. In his lecture, Peter Vaupel reported that hyperthermia (approx. 43 ° C) potentially stimulates HIF-1α, which promotes tumor progression. The question arises: could HIF-1α inhibition improve the effectiveness of hyperthermia?

3) Hyperthermia Lecture at the Ashania Mission Cancer & General Hospital and the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital in Dhaka / Bangladesh

As part of CME (Continuing Medical Education), Stefan Heckel-Reusser gave a lecture on wIRA superficial hyperthermia at the Ahsania Mission Cancer & General Hospital on February 20, 2020.

On February 22, 2020, a lecture was given on oncological fever-range whole-body hyperthermia at the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH), the country's largest cancer clinic. The main question was: What role does immunogenic cell death induced by cytotoxic therapies play, so that the primarily unspecific immunostimulating effect of moderate whole-body hyperthermia leads to an effective anti-tumor immune response?

▲The event was sponsored by the Clinic EW Villa Medica, where heckel full-body hyperthermia has been available since May 2019 (see photo below). In a subsequent meeting with the NICRH clinic director and radiation oncologist, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Hussain, was introduced to wIRA surface hyperthermia.

▲Whole body hyperthermia at the EW Villa Medica Bangladesh clinic, managed by head Dr. Khaleda Adib. In addition to oncological indications, there is great interest in its use in rheumatoid arthritis. The clinic has a strong network in Bangladesh and cooperates closely with leading specialists in various fields.

4) Abstract-Deadline für ICHO 2020 (30.09. - 03.10.2020) in Rotterdam: 24 April 2020 The deadline for abstract submission to the INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON HYPERTHERMIC ONCOLOGY is April 24, 2020.

ICHO is a biennial congress of the ESHO (European Society of Hyperthermic Oncology), the American STM (Society for Thermal Medicine) and the ASHO (Asian Society of Hyperthermic Oncology).
